Sleep And...

A new study of individuals under 40, which appears in the March issue of Sleep, shows a clear association between averaging 5 hours or less sleep each night and large increase in visceral fat, or fat around the organs. What happens when your body does not get its needed sleep: 1) You will crave high-carb foods and likely gravitate toward sugary, salty, fatty carbs 2) Your metabolism will tick down a notch 3) You will be tired enough to go for exercise.

High-Fat Breakfast May Curb Weight

More to love, less to say..."eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper"

Flip Flops Found To Take The Weight

Men Catch Worse Colds

REASONS (Male vs Female):
- Male: The ancestral role of men as the hunter-gathers, it was assumed males would encounter more infections. And when men have to make an extra effort to attract a mate, they put their energy into that pursuit, leaving their bodies with less ability to fight off infections.
- Female: Women may have built up greater immunities because of their traditional role as caregivers. Being exposed to the viruses and bacteria their children brought into the home, women may have become better at fighting them off.

Breasts Are The Best For Baby

For BABY - It reduces their risk for ear infections, gastrointestinal problems and colds. It's also somewhat protective against being overweight and developing diabetes later in life.
And for MOMS too - It reduces the risk of certain cancers such as ovarian and breast cancer, and also the risk for developing diabetes.
BREAST MILK - is digested easily than any other foods, so babies may wake up more frequently, but this doesn't mean they're not getting enough nutrition. In fact, waking up (though tiring for the parents) is a good thing because it's protective against sudden infant death (SID).
The goal is exclusive breastfeeding to six months because that confers the optimal and greatest health benefit for babies and mothers. Even though these problems (cracked nipples and painful over-swollen breasts), which can derail the efforts are most likely to arise and thinking that the baby isn't getting enough milk, don't give up to breastfeed your little one. Reach out for help and advice from public health nurses, lactation consultants, midwives, clinics and (don't look any further) your very own experienced beloved mother/MIL (the grandmas). Often, it's a question of modifying position and latch. To first-time moms, wish you all the very best!

The Right Way To Reward

Four free ways to show staff they're appreciated:
1) Offer a sincere thank you. Do it verbally, or better yet, write a personal note to thank an employee for a job well done.
2) Ditch trash and trinkets. If you're offering material rewards, make them items staff will really appreciate. rather than throw-aways that will end up in the trash.
3) Give the gift of time. Your staff will really appreciate time off to catch up on errands or recharge after wrapping up a time-intensive projects
4) Foster an environment of inclusiveness. Communicate regularly with employees; share information and ask for feedback and ideas.
OR alternatively consider *Performance Enhancers (source: PWC's Poll2010)* - What workers want in the absence of a pay raise:
- Cash bonus for work on a particular project (90%)
- Gift cards (89%)
- A couple of days of extra annual leave (89%)
- Technology gift ie iPod Nano, digital camera, etc (80%)
- Lunch with family or friends paid for by the employer (68%)
- Being 'fast-tracked" for promotion (67%)
- Lunch or drinks with colleagues paid for by employer (62%)
- Access to internal training course (62%)
- Ticket to leisure or sporting activities for use with family/friends (61%)
- Option to gain experience in a different department within the organization (58%)
- A couple of extra days off to do charity/volunteer work (49%)
- A promotion without pay rise (37%)
Q: When was the last time you received a THANK YOU from your boss for a job well done?

Charity Starts At Home

Q2: Have you ever wondered how these small gestures are interpreted by your children?
*Interesting Facts To Ponder* Recent research and study related to culture of active caring demonstrate:
1) a clear connection between a child's direct and observed experiences of volunteering and donating and his or her involvement in charitable activities later in life;
2) a teenager's family is the "Number One" role model influencing his or her decisions about charitable giving and volunteerism; and
3) benefits derive from these activities including increased self esteem, a feeling of being valued, exposure to environments in which they can meet new people, and the opportunity to learn new skills (ie leadership skill).
Charity Starts at Home - instill and nurture charitable giving (sadaqah) value and habits in your children's heart by helping the poor and needy.

8 DIY Wedding Day Beauty Tips

2) A light foundation primer on face and eyelids brightens and helps makeup stay fresh for hours.
3) Use corrector to counteract really dark circles or pronounced redness on the skin. Starting with corrector means you will use less concealer and foundation and still get the maximum coverage.
4) For natural finish use liquid foundation.
5) Keep eye makeup simple with a wash of shadow in a fresh shade and waterproof liner along the base of upper lashes. Smudge a deeper shadow color over the liner, and dab a shimmery highlight at the inner corners of eyes. Remember to fill sparse brows in with a matches-your-hair shade.
6) Curl lashes and coat with black mascara in either a waterproof or tube-technology formula that stands up to happy tears.
7) Suggest two shades of blush to create shape and pretty glow. Sculpt temples, hairline and contour of cheeks with a warm blush, then sweep a more vibrant shade on the top outer curve of the apples of cheeks.
8) Finish with gloss in a luscious rosy of berry hue.
*my personal advice* look to top red-carpet celebrity looks for inspiration, practice your technique, and take lots of digital snaps to assess results. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS!

Water Can Do Wonders For You

1) Water helps to flush out the by products of fat breakdown. This process is essential for people trying to lose weight as water dilutes the waste products, allowing them to be removed from the body more rapidly.
2) Dehydration means that body does not have sufficient water to carry in with bodily functions as normal, leading to some unpleasant feelings. Symptoms include fatigue, headaches, dizziness, thirst, and muscles spasms.
3) Water can act as an effective appetite suppressant. A common mistake is confusing hunger pangs for thirst. Drinking a glass of water when the feeling first manifests itself will help you realize which one it is you are feeling.
4) Be careful when choosing liquids - tea and coffee are powerful diuretics, excessive consumption will cause you to lose a lot of water.
5) Water is calorie free, so you can drink as much as you like.
6) In order to get perfect skin you must not only be hydrating externally, but internally. Drinking lots of water, or alternatively, eating fruit or vegetables with a high water content is one of the best things you can do for your skin. Water will make your skin look more plump and radiant thanks to the added moisture.
The human body is made up between 55 and 75 per cent water and constantly needs to be replenished if the body is to function at its best. On average, people should aim to drink 2 liters daily in order to replace natural fluid loss (ie through sweating, breathing, etc).
